Members of the AvMed Member Advisory Board met at the Health Science Simulation Center on Central Campus in Davie on July 12. AvMed has been a partner with Broward College for 15 years, supporting the First Generation in College Scholarship and the annual Broward College Golf Classic.

Corporate leaders and members were welcomed by Nancy Botero, Chief Campaign Officer, who also chairs the AvMed Community Advisory Board. Dr. Lilia Chavarria, Senior Director of the Health Science Simulation Center provided a tour of the SIM Center and shared the latest technology and curriculum for educating tomorrow’s nursing and health care providers.

AvMed Vice President Candy Sicle shares, “The AvMed sales associates and Medicare Members of the Advisory Council were highly impressed with the state-of-the-art educational facility that models a hospital setting. We were fascinated to see how the Broward College students get hands-on practice in realistic simulations allowing them to further develop their learnings, reduce errors, and master their skills. It was an enlightening experience.”

The Broward College Health Sciences Simulation Center is a state-of-the-art educational facility that models a hospital setting. It is designed to provide students with a safe learning environment where they transfer their understanding of theory into hands-on practice. It provides the opportunity for students to practice realistic simulations, the development of decision-making skills, the reduction of errors, and the improvement of communication and teamwork.
