Dr. Willis Holcombe’s legacy at Broward College runs deep—but perhaps none more meaningful than the lives he and his family continue to impact through their generosity.
Robert first met Dr. Holcombe, President Emeritus of Broward College, when he was awarded a named scholarship as an undergraduate in the Business pathway. After graduating, he completed his baccalaureate degree in finance at Chapel Hill University. He is now an account executive with the prestigious firm Goldman Sachs.
“It was wonderful to reconnect Robert with Dr. Holcombe,” says Nancy Botero. “Robert was able to share his amazing story and personally thank Dr. Holcombe for the role he played in helping him get to where he is today.”
Daniela was an international student at Broward College, studying film production. She graduated last summer and transferred to FIU. Her acceptance to the university was “touch and go,” recalls Botero. “She learned at the 11th hour that she had been awarded the Willis Holcombe Scholarship—without which, her dreams would have been derailed.”
Both scholars were able to share their personal journeys with Dr. Holcombe and express their heartfelt gratitude for his investment in their lives. Each has declared their intention to “pay it forward” and help others along their journey.
Dr. Holcombe was so moved by meeting them that he presented Broward College with another generous gift—ensuring the next deserving student has the opportunity to realize their dream of a college education.
